This power of God is a freely given gift from God, which can release anyone from all other powers you need only accept it. This calumnious end of the power of wickedness in the city of Samaria by the Spirit of God in action, demonstrates once again that the mighty power of God shall and will defeat all other demonic spirits. The Apostle Peter discerned his wrongful motives and rebuked him for thinking that the power of God could be purchased with money, and charged him to repent of this wickedness, and pray to God, that the thought of his heart may be forgiven. Simon the sorcerer now knew that his influence and fame was broken in the city of Samaria, so he thought that his money could buy the Spirit of God in action. He recognized that this power of God destroyed his reputation as a great man. ![]() The Spirit of God in action was so powerful that the baptized sorcerer Simon of Samaria, became envious of the power of God that he offered the Apostles money to purchase this God given gift. The scripture says that when the Apostles came down to Samaria, the Spirit of God in action took control and led the Apostles to pray for all the believers in Samaria that they might receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, since they were only baptized and had not yet received the Holy Ghost.ĭr, Luke recorded that when the Apostles Peter and John laid their hands on the believers in Samaria, they received the Holy Ghost with power and authority. The good news of the conversion of the Samaritans to the Apostolic doctrine reached the Apostles in Jerusalem, and they sent unto the Samaritans Peter and John. Luke says that Simon wondered at the miracles that were wrought by the Spirit of God in action through Philip. The bible says that when Evangelist Philip preached the message of salvation in the name of Jesus Christ, many of the Samaritans were baptized, including this Simon the sorcerer. Many in the city held him in high regard because of his sorceries, and believed that he was the great power of God. In this scene, while Philip was still in Samaria, there was a famous man in the city named Simon, who used sorcery to bewitch the people. The scripture gives us once again a fast moving scene of the Spirit of God in action. ![]()
